From August 3 - 15, the Winter Festival comes to Melbourne with a 30m x 28m outdoor rink in Queensbridge Square, Southbank.

Ice Skating Australia (ISA) needs local talent to give 1-2 minute skating demonstrations at the start of each session.  

ISA also need volunteers who are happy to:

• chat with the public about the benefits of ice skating, promote their club, state and/or rink and the Aussie Skate Program
• hand out brochures
• direct anyone wanting Aussie Skate lessons to the Winter Festival booking hut
• help promote the sale of ISA merchandise (Aussie Skate mittens and scarves)
• raise awareness of the 2010 Australian Figure Skating Championships

(Note: No volunteers will be asked to handle cash or financial transactions.)

Winter Festival staff will be available to familiarize all volunteers with the operation of the hut. ISA Coach Co-ordinator Sarah-Yvonne Prytula will also be on-site every day to assist.

Becoming A Volunteer

The Volunteer Roster in Microsoft Excel can be downloaded here for your information.

It is easy to volunteer -  simply add in your details (name and club) at the times you are available and email back to winterfestival@isa.org.au

ISA will then compile a master schedule prior to the start of the Festival and contact all volunteers with additional information.   

Anyone who can spare a few hours to skate and/or volunteer is more than welcome. This is a great promotional opportunity for everyone and should be a lot of fun.

You don’t need to be a computer wiz, but if you have a basic knowledge of Windows based software and can point and click a mouse, please come along to learn how to Compute for Competitions and become a huge help for your sport!

With the National Figure Skating Championships in Melbourne this year and many competitions in the lead up, your figure skating community needs a resource pool of as many trained people as possible.  In addition to on-the-day roles, there are tasks pre and post competition where more trained people would certainly be an asset. 

This course will be suitable for skaters, parents, clubs through to IT consultants, with many levels of applications along the way with benefits to all levels.   Everyone is encouraged to become involved and club committees are encouraged to consider compulsory attendance for their available members. 

The training session will cover:

• Setting up the computers for IJS at events
• SkateScore for 6.0 events (mainly used for Aussie Skate)
• Pre and Post Competition procedures (including data entry and result production).
• Troubleshooting checklists.

There will be a Powerpoint presentation as well as training materials provided for participants. The training session will be held on Saturday May 29 from 1pm at the Icehouse, in Melbourne's Docklands.

We have laptops available to carry out this training. However if you have your own laptop that you would be happy to have the software uploaded then feel free to bring it along. 

Copies of the software can also be provided at the session so you can upload it onto your home computer and practice between events.  Alternatively, you may prefer to pre-load your computer, the link to the software can be obtained in advance by contacting Kim Wilson.

ISV extends our best wishes to Nicole Bateson. She is heading off with nine other Australian skaters to participate in Adult competitions in Germany (May 20 - 23), then on to France the following week to compete in the Mountain Cup (La Coupe de la Montagne). Have a great time, Nicole!

Selection was considered by an ISA Selection Panel, and is based on performance at the previous Oceania Camp, results at the 2009 Australian Figure Skating Championships, current development level and age at July 1.

Ice Skating Victoria is thrilled with the announcement that Ice Skating Australia will be hosting the 2010 Australian Figure Skating Championships at the Icehouse, in Melbourne's Docklands. Competition will run from Thursday November 25 until Thursday December 2 (with practices commencing on Wednesday November 24).

ISV council members and volunteers have offered their full support to assist ISA with the Championships, and are looking forward to the opportunity to showcase the wonderful new world-class Docklands sports and entertainment venue.

Ice Skating Victoria is pleased to announce that effective Wednesday, April 14, 2010 the Icehouse Figure Skating Club (IFSC) was granted affiliation. The ISV Council unanimously welcomed the newly formed club and wished the committee and members all the best for the exciting year ahead.

The ceremony included an official ribbon cutting and fireworks. The highlight of the evening was the on ice demonstrations by four winter sports, curling, ice hockey, speed skating and figure skating. 

ISV also wish to congratulate Katherine Firkin and Henri Dupont for representing our sport – they did ISV and skating proud, adding a touch of glamour to the event.
